Google launches “Clicks for Charity,” turning user searches into donations for charities. Learn how every click contributes to a good cause.
Sit, Google! Sit!
As Google grows and evolves, so does public perception of it. For those of us outside the Googleplex, Google has represented a broad spectrum of things. For a lot of people they’ve made the transition from fun-filled upstart to Evil Empire. We have always known Google for producing fast results, and their speedy evolution is no exception. They’ve run the gamut in less than a decade.
What’s Changed with Google Ad Quality?
Kevin Newcomb’s take on the latest incremental update on ads quality. As Kevin does, I interpret the changes to mean an increase in transparency (obvious, because that’s what Google tells us); and a more relaxed minimum bid status for "unknown" type new keywords where Google has little data to go on. Here, they might be less likely to punish you for the trends seen with other advertisers trying similar keywords for similar offers, and let you create your own good or bad track record on your own.
Google Shares Quality With Ad Clients
AdWords users will begin to get a glimpse of the ‘man behind the curtain’ as they make a trio of general Quality Score ratings available, based on the keywords clients pick for those campaigns.
Google To Appeal Copiepresse Decision
A Belgian court reaffirmed an earlier judgment against Google this week demanding Google remove Copiepress-represented news publication material from Google.be and Google News. Google issued a statement expressing "disappointment" and a plan to appeal the verdict.
Google To Reveal Quality Scores
Ever since Google first announced that it would implement quality score into its methodology for calculating bid prices for keywords, an air of mystery has surrounded the process and has left many participants in the search company’s AdSense network scratching their collective heads in frustration.
Google – Cultural Digital Archive?
Marc’s The Video Library of Alexandria post on O’Reilly Radar connected a set of dots for me that I can’t believe I never connected on my own.
In that, it certainly seems like an appropriate purchase for Google, much like DejaNews before it.
Is Google Shifting Site Targeting Program to CPC?
At least one panelist (David Szetela) on the Ad Program Strategies: Compare and Contrast panel here at SES London, argued that while he liked the control of Google’s Site Targeted flavour of content targeting, he wasn’t so fussy about the CPM-based pricing model.
Google Maps Invites Error Reports
If you see something wrong within Google Maps, you don’t have to “take it” – users can now report problems. The average user may not get a lot out of this feature, however, because it only applies to business listings.
In other words, Google Maps may still erroneously advise people to drive 10 kilometers instead of take 30 steps. But other mistakes, such as incorrect phone numbers or inaccurate hours of operation, can be fixed.
Google Adds Malware Warnings To Search Results
Google is integrating malware warnings in the search results to warn searchers about risky sites before they go there. In fact, searchers have to work extra hard to get to them.
Results for the phrase "beautiful free screensaver" include a warning with the top result, linking to EliteSavers.com, reading "This site may harm your computer."
