More Marketers Focused On Digital Spending

More marketers are planning on shifting their media spending budgets to digital during the economic downturn, according to a second quarter survey by Round2 Communications.
Email marketing is one area where spending is set to increase with 40 percent of respondents planning to do so, while half expect their amount of spending to remain the same and just 10 percent plan a decrease.
Nearly a third (31.3%) of marketers plan to increase spending on interactive advertising while 52.1 percent say their investment will remain the same and 16.7 percent plan a decrease.

US Ad Spending Saw 15% Decline in Early ’09

A report from Nielsen indicates that ad spending in the United States fell 15.4% in the first half of the year, compared to the first half of last year. Preliminary estimates show that US ad expenditures fell over $10.3 billion to a total of $56.9 billion.

"While some of the larger categories have cut back spending, we see others that continue to raise the ante on their media investments," said Annie Touliatos, VP for Nielsen’s advertising information services.

Online Ad Spending Dips 5% In Q2

Global spending on Internet advertising declined for the second consecutive quarter, by 5 percent, to $13.9 billion from $14.7 billion in the same quarter a year ago, according to a new report from IDC.
All global regions posted losses, except for the Asia/Pacific region and Japan, which saw slight gains in the second quarter. U.S. online ad spending also dropped for the second quarter in a row, by 7 percent year- over- year, to $6.2 billion from $6.6 billion.

Retail Boosts Search Spending In Q2

Search spending from retailers was up 36 percent year-over-year in the second quarter across all major search engines, according to a new report from SearchIgnite.
The trend was not seen in other categories, such as travel and finance, and U.S. search spend was down 6.5 percent for the quarter.
Retail search spend increased steadily as the quarter went on, with June showing an increase in spend of 55 percent compared with June 2008.

U.S. IT Spending Set For Rebound

Growth in U.S. IT spending is expected to rebound in the fourth quarter of 2009, and 2010 is on track to bring a revival of IT buying in other markets as well, according to an updated forecast by Forrester Research.
Global spending on IT services by businesses and governments in 2009 are projected to decline by 10.6 percent, compared with a 3 percent decrease previously projected at the beginning of the year by Forrester.

Despite Recession, US Online Ad Spending Continues to Rise

Research shows that marketers are spending more on online advertising and less on ads in newspapers, magazines, and radio. According to eMarketer, each year, ad spending on online media is growing by at least a percentage point.

eMarketer also projects that online ad dollars will jump about 5% by 2013. Here’s how they see it playing out:

Teens Spending Less On Online Music

Teens (age 13 to 17) purchased 19 percent less music in 2008 than they did in 2007, according to a new report from the NPD Group.
CD purchasing feel 26 percent and paid digital downloads dropped 13 percent compared to the previous year.  With paid digital downloads, 32 percent of teens purchasing less digital music said they were unhappy with the music that was available for purchase and 23 percent were satisfied were satisfied with the digital music they already owned.
