A little over a year ago, research showed that 44% of traffic to consumer packaged goods (CPG) sites came from search. These days, searchers are getting even more specific when searching for these kinds of items. Sally Falkow looked at the phenomenon last year, referring to research from comScore, Procter & Gamble, Yahoo, and SEMPO. Highlights she pointed out about the motivation of searchers were:
Online Consumers Spending About The Same This Year
Yes, online visits to retail sites have been up. Yes, retailers are seeing increases in transactions and visitors. What they’re not seeing, though, is more money spent per transaction, which could make things roughly square with last year. Though there were 2 million more shoppers whipping about online on Cyber Monday, a 22 percent increase over last year and a full 34 percent of the shopping population did their shopping online, Cyber Monday revenue went up a paltry one percent.
Online Holiday Spending Up 7 Percent
Online holiday spending continues to be the one bright spot in the woeful economy, according to a new report from comScore.For the holiday season through December 7, $15.63 billion has been spent online, about the same level compared to the same period last year. During the first week since Cyber Monday (December 1-December 7), sales totaled $4.45 billion, up 7 percent over a year ago.
Online Holiday Shoppers Remain Satisfied
Even with a decrease in online shopper satisfaction on Cyber Monday year-over-year, customer satisfaction with retail Web sites has remained steady ever since, according to ForeSee Results’ weekly holiday benchmark.
Online Holiday Spending Up 9 Percent
Online holiday spending has now reached the same levels as last year thanks to Cyber Monday and the corresponding Tuesday, according to comScore.For the holiday season through December 5, $14.92 billion has been spent online, about the same amount compared to the same period last year.
Nielsen Looks at Online Retail Category Performance
Nielsen is sharing some interesting data today regarding online retail web traffic during the holiday season. This data shows that both Black Friday and Cyber Monday traffic were up by 10% each when compared to last year.
