Google’s AdWords Guidelines In Action

When you choose your ad text for Google, use a hefty dose of caution. As Thai Winds learned, it’s tough to bend Google’s ad rules, even if you’re right.

When Thai Winds decided to use Google’s AdWords program, they wrote their ad in the way that made the most sense from the perspective of their business. They didn’t anticipate what happened next, however – their ad was disapproved, all of their ads with Google were deleted because of the phrases they chose.

Google And Duplicate Content

I’ve been following the discussion about Google and mirrored information for some time. It is “common knowledge” that Google penalizes page rank when it determines that content is duplicated somewhere else. In fact, I’ve read many experts stating that there should be no duplicate domain names and no duplicate content anywhere.

On the face of it the arguments appear to be sound. Google obviously has several billion pages in it’s database and could, it appears, easily determine if content is duplicated. It also seems, again on the face of it, that it’s reasonable to check for duplicate content, as this is the “mark of a spammer” and not necessary on the web with hyperlinking available. At least, this is the common wisdom.

What Would Google Do?

Everything’s Google this and Google that on the Internet, and it’s high time that someone searched for some answers as to why they’re the number one search engine, and why they’ve doubled their revenue since last year.

I plugged these questions into the Garrett search engine, and I’d like to share the results with you.
