Users Expect Open Internet Access

The majority (91%) of Internet users expect their Internet service provider to avoid blocking or limiting their service, according to a new survey commissioned by Google, Yahoo and Skype.
The news comes as the European Parliament and EU governments are considering a major telecoms reform package. Some elements of the package could affect users rights by allowing ISPs to limit access to Web sites or applications, or to prioritize some Internet traffic in favor of their own partner’s traffic.

Online Retailers Expect 15% Growth In Holiday Sales

The holiday season will be challenging for retailers but more than half (56.1%) of online retailers expect to increase sales at least fifteen percent over last year according to a study conducted by Shopzilla for Shop.org."Online retailers are resilient, but not immune, to the challenges of this holiday season," said Scott Silverman, Executive Director of Shop.org.

Online Shoppers Expect Better Service

While online shopping remains popular a new survey done by Harris Interactive for Tealeaf found that the majority (87%) of users conducting transactions on the Web have experienced problems.Among those who experience an online transaction issue, 41 percent would switch to an online or offline competitor or abandon the transaction completely.  This represents a $57 billion potential impact to revenue on shopping sites.

Expect Yahoo Shares to Rise on Microsoft Deal

I’m gutted. Last Autumn it was obvious that Yahoo stock was seriously undervalued by comparison to Google, Amazon, and other major internet companies. However, not only did I not have an investment portfolio, but the promise of the stock markets tanking made it a bad time to set up a portfolio in the first place. BEA and Oracle customers in particular should expect to see major shifts pending yesterday’s acquisition, as four, overlapping enterprise portal products will compete for attention under Larry Ellison.
