More marketers are planning on shifting their media spending budgets to digital during the economic downturn, according to a second quarter survey by Round2 Communications.
Email marketing is one area where spending is set to increase with 40 percent of respondents planning to do so, while half expect their amount of spending to remain the same and just 10 percent plan a decrease.
Nearly a third (31.3%) of marketers plan to increase spending on interactive advertising while 52.1 percent say their investment will remain the same and 16.7 percent plan a decrease.
Digital Media Consumption Making Big Gains
Americans are increasing their overall media consumption and multi-tasking is playing a bigger role, according Nielsen’s new Three Screen Report.
In the 2nd quarter of 2009 the number of people watching mobile video increased 70 percent from last year and people who watch video online increased their viewing 46 percent during the same time period. In addition, the average American TV consumption remains at an all-time (141 hours per month) compared to the same time last year.
Digital Lifestyles on the Rise for Americans
Forrester Research conducted a survey, which shows that Americans of all ages are continuing to adopt a digital lifestyle. They surveyed nearly 48,000 people, and the survey includes 1,400 data points and data on 378 US brands. Forrester says this is the largest ongoing survey in the world to explore consumer attitudes, ownership, and use of technology.
Digital Music Sales Closing In On CDs
The majority of music sales still come from CDs, but digital music sales are making up an ever- greater share of the U.S. market, according to NPD MusicWatch.
CDs accounted for 65 percent of all music sold in the first half of 2009 compared to paid digital downloads, which comprised 35 percent of music sales. By comparison, paid digital music made up 20 percent of sales in 2007 growing to 30 percent of the music market last year.

USA Today Launching Digital Edition
Gannett has announced it will launch an e- edition of its USA Today newspaper.
The e-edition will launch Monday August 3 and will be a replica of the print version of USA Today but will feature additional interactive content.
The e-edition will also include a Saturday-Sunday version called USA Today Extra, the first ever-regular weekend product from USA Today.

The Boston Globe announced today the launch of GlobeReader, a new digital version of the newspaper that can be read offline or online.
