Publishing a Book – How to Do It Yourself

To begin: Write your book. Get a tough editor to go over your work and tell you where you need to do more. Expect to do this at least twice. I generally rewrite my books 5-7 times before they are published. I put 5000 hours into writing the Breast Health book; my editors put in another 5000 hours!! You can get started on the first three steps (below) while you are still writing.

Guerilla Research With Web Site Audiences

In the world of web site development, there is a popular pastime and it’s not baseball. It’s the inevitable debate that arises regarding the content of a web site.

Prior to cognitive maps and paper-based prototypes, there is the traditional imbroglio: “The client wants this feature on the site,” or “the marketing department thinks that this would be a cool function.” Within the project team, everyone has an opinion. What’s missing from the debate? It’s not what – it’s whom: The Audience.

10 Simple Steps to Home-Based Transcription Business Success

I’m often asked how someone can not only establish, but also succeed as a home-based transcriptionist. This is a difficult question to answer – even after more than 14 years in the business. There are so many different factors to consider, not the least of which includes YOUR experience, training, education, skills and “homebase” (area of the country you operate from) as well as your specialty.

My first advice to you is to obtain the necessary skills from an educational program or on-the-job training. You cannot market your services and/or expect to earn a salary with inferior skills – or no skills at all.

the Google “Snippet” System in Action

Dear Dan,
My name is Brandon Stone. I’m senior tech and webmaster for a company called Martin Yale Industries. We manufacture office and graphics equipment. I took over the company website about a year ago. It had previously been ignored for about five years. So, I went out and bought a copy of FrontPage and taught myself to build webs. I have been building for about 2 years now, and have had a lot of success in the search engines. Thanks to Murdok, that is. Without Murdok, I don’t think that I would be anywhere near as keen as I am. I definitely don’t think my company would be #1 for “desktop graphics equipment” in Google.

Beware of Today’s Targeted Scams

There are zillions of scams floating all over – online websites, emails, regular snail-mail, and phone calls. You need to be wary of everything – and that’s a tough call.

As a funding agent, I got a call the other day, and this woman was asking of we can do a certain type of loan – I asked her to explain, and she said she needed a huge sum of money to build some sort of housing project – in NIGERIA.

From Haiku to Headline: Learn To Write Concise And Powerful Ads

Writing a good ad that captures the attention of the reader is an art. Your ad and especially the headline should be compelling and strong in order to persuade the reader to a greater interest in what you are offering. In other words: to distinguish yourself from your competitors you have to be creative. Learning how to write a Haiku, a very short Japanes poem, can help you to accomplish this.
