Beta Urchin Software, New Google Analytics Features

At the eMetrics Summit in D.C., Google unveiled some new features for Google Analytics, as well as a new version of its Urchin hosted wed analytics software.
First up, what’s new for Google Analytics: Head into your Analytics profile and enable “Site Search” (which is not currently available in my account), and the Content section of Analytics will show you the keywords people are using to find your site.

Extradited Software Pirate Pleads Guilty

The leader of one of the oldest and most well known Internet software piracy groups, Hew Raymond Griffiths has pleaded guilty to criminal copyright infringement charges, in one of the first extraditions for an intellectual property offense.
Griffiths, a British national living in Bateau Bay, Australia was extradited in February 2007 to face charges in U.S. District Court.

How Not To Give Your Software Away For Free

If you are a startup entrepreneur, at some point, you will need to make a decision regarding your business model.  Many software startups have a strategy to build early market traction by giving away their offering for free with some plan to monetize at a later date.  I’m not going to make a strong argument against this.  So, for purposes of this article, lets assume for a moment that as a software startup, you actually *want* to charge money for your software someday. 

ELGG – Social Technology Software

If you want to build out your own DIY social network, then you need to check out ELGG.

ELGG is a new open source social network software package that is available on source forge. We spent the last day and a half installing the software and playing with some of the mods and other goodies that come with the software.

Good parts about this is that it is fairly easy to install, there are some mods we had to make to the SuSe Linux that we were installing it on.
