FTC Orders Online Advertiser To Pay $200,000
The Federal Trade Commission has reached an agreement with Member Source Media, an online advertising company for its use of spam emails with misleading subject lines that failed to disclose to consumers that they would have to spend money to receive "free" items.
Men Think They Are More Secure Online
The majority of men think that they know more about online security than women, but a new poll indicates that both sexes are equally vulnerable to online threats.The poll of 1,400 UK adults revealed that men are more likely to be confident about their online security and only 4 percent are unsure of what protection their computer has. "My gut feeling, because I’m a man, is that it is one of those societal gender things," said Larry Bridwell, global security strategist at AVG, which commissioned the study.
Books Most Purchased Item Online
Globally, the most popular items to purchase online are books with 41 percent of Internet users doing so in the last three months according to Nielsen Online.Among U.S. Internet users 38 percent bought books in the past month. In the UK 45 percent of Internet users have bought books online and in Germany 55 percent had done the same.

Local advertising will increase by 13 percent from 2007 to 2012,faster than online advertising as a whole, which will see 12 percent growth during the same period according to a JupiterResearch report, "US Online Local Advertising Forecast, 2007-2012."

72% Of Consumers Have Watched Video Online
More than half (72%) of consumers have viewed video online and the majority of all age segments have watched online videos, including 58 % 65 years and older according to a new survey from Burst Media.
The survey found that 58 percent of respondents view online video content at least once a week. Men are more likely than women to view online video content over the course of a week (67% versus 49% respectively). Thirty-three percent of men 18-24 years old watch some type of online video content daily.
