Facebook Lowers Ad Cost With 32% Growth

Last week, we took a look at Facebook’s financials and wondered if the social networking giant is headed for financial ruin, despite—or even because of—118% worldwide growth, 32% US growth (monthly unique visitors). Many commentators argued that any company would be overjoyed with even 32% growth. Unfortunately, that kind of thinking is the exact thinking that has brought Facebook to this point—and now Facebook’s ad rates have fallen 50%.

eBay Lowers Sellers Fees For Fixed-Price Items

eBay is lowering its fees U.S. sellers on its site pay to list fixed-price items in an effort to attract new buyers and better compete with rivals like Amazon.com.Sellers will now pay a flat rate of 35 cents for a 30-day listed period, up from the previous seven-day standard. Sellers will be able to list multiple quantities of the same item for a single 35-cent listing fee.

Web 2.0 Lowers The Barriers

Here’s a Web 2.0 story for you: I got an email pitch from a guy named Kevin the other day, letting me know about the Web-based classified ad service that he and his buddy Chad put together in their spare time. Called Listifieds.com, it’s based in the thriving metropolis of Bowling Green, Kentucky (which I remember primarily because it’s where John Prine says his grandmother taught school in the great old song Grampaw was a Carpenter).
