Googles Buys JotSpot, Self-Coverage Ensues

Google has acquired JotSpot, which describes itself as “the first application wiki company.” In a well-coordinated display, JotSpot’s co-founder Joe Kraus made a post about the purchase on the Google Blog, while the JotSpot site supplied the answers to eleven “frequently asked questions” about the deal. Googles Homegrown Goods

Home-made products tend to vary in quality. Baked goods, for example, are usually far better coming out of an oven than a cardboard box. More complicated projects – such as kit cars, which are notoriously temperamental and unreliable – tend to underachieve in comparison to off-the-shelf versions. But Google is challenging this convention, according to some, by creating products to meet its needs.

Googles Throwaway Product Strategy

It was curious last year when Google’s corporate philosophy suddenly had two omissions. The running mantra “Do No Evil” was sidelined, presumably, because the company realized that 800 lb. gorillas required some evil sometimes – success brings war and playing fair is a poor survival strategy. But Google also completely abandoned its other motto: do one thing and do it well.
