So everyone and their mother is now giving out local SEO advice about getting listed in the local search engines/internet yellow pages. Recently articles were published on Entrepreneur.com and MSNBC which both of course suggested getting listed in these local directories including Google Maps. Sound advice indeed.
Google Has Poor Networking Skills
Working with TV networks to get their content on YouTube has been harder for Google to figure out than any technical challenge it might face.
Google Acquiring Video Game Ad Company
Google has agreed to acquire Adscape, a company that puts ads inside of video games, for $23 million. Google had missed out on Massive, a company Microsoft picked up for $200-400 million about a year ago, and is going to have to settle for the much smaller Adscape, which it will have to build into a bigger player. Judging by Google’s great success with dMarc, I’d assume nothing at this point.
Google Allowing Misrepresented Result Snippets
I’ve asked Google if it’s a "sneaky redirect" per their webmaster guidelines to send some users to a registration page that does not contain the words available in the search results page snippet (the words you searched for).
Google SEO
Often times we are asked how we optimize for one search engine (Google) and expect to rank well for the other two engines (Yahoo! and MSN). This question is usually followed up with “do you guys create different doorway pages for each keyword, that is optimized for each algorithm?”.
Google News Trails BBC, Yahoo News In The UK
The home field advantage paid off: according to the latest data from comScore, the BBC website receives more visitors than Google News in the UK. For that matter, Yahoo News also ranked higher than Google News, by a margin of about 900,000 people.
Woe is Google, huh? In terms of numbers, it’s not even close to the top of the news site pile, and in terms of brand name, it has some less-than-distinguished company.
Larry Page, Google Look Into AI
Larry Page spoke before the Annual American Association for the Advancement of Science conference on Friday, and he made some fairly standard remarks about working harder to solve humanity’s problems. One mildly interesting thing popped up, though: Page mentioned that Google is developing artificial intelligence.
Google Grabs Polish Poets By the Bards
The only one sounding their barbaric YAWP in the poetry world these days is Google. A Polish writing group – the AFP chunks them all as poets – named Grupa Mlodych Artystow i Literatow, or GMAiL, has been set upon to analyze the finer points of rhetoric from Google’s legal team.
Google Continues Its Efforts In Child Safety
Recently, a conference of experts convened in New York to ask the question “Does The Internet Change Everything?” in regards to how information is presented to children in the ever-evolving digital age. Just how dangerous an environment is the Internet, and what are practical solutions to make it safer for children?
First let me say, I don’t have any children. As a 28 year-old single male, the idea of keeping the Internet safe for children isn’t exactly the first thought that pops into my mind whenever I sit down to do my daily web surfing.
Google Spins Out Hard Disk Paper
If you’re a hardcore hardware geek, then the work compiled in the 13-page paper by some Google engineers on the failure patterns of disk drives will be like a belated Valentine from the little red-headed girl.
