While we talk about the death of newspapers with great regularity it gets to be old news real quickly and even starts to feel a little mean. So to relieve that pressure eMarketer has come out with a report that is evidence of the decline and fall of another old friend, radio. Terresttrial radio is what we are talking about here. Good old fashioned over the airwaves kind of radio is heading in the same direction as newspapers which is sad but just another harsh reality of the shift in the media of the future.
YouTube Storyboards its Future
There’s no question that YouTube is already a force to be reckoned with in the online video industry. It is the most popular video site on the web by a long shot.
YouTube wants to be better though, and is frequently introducing new features. The company posted some visions for its own future on the YouTube blog today, including visual storyboards of some concepts it intends to pay particular attention to in the coming years. Have a look at those:
Google Talks Future of Search Advertising
Google AdWords Business Product Management Director Nicholas Fox gave a keynote speech at Search Engine Strategies. He talked about where the search industry is going, and where it’s been.
On the history of AdWords, he says Google quickly realized that banner ads didn’t make sense with search, sow they tried the text ad, and it has worked pretty well. Google is now running over a billion text ad auctions a day.

After checking out Bing’s explanation of how it handles reference searches, it got me thinking how big of a role Wikipedia plays in search. Wikipedia entries are often among the top results in Google, and clearly they are a big part of Bing’s strategy as well.

A 3D Future for YouTube?
Google is testing 3D videos on YouTube. An interesting post in the YouTube Help Center was discovered by Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz, and a Google employee is apparently using his "20% time" to work on the "stereoscopic player".

Newspaper Execs Discuss Strategies For Future
About two-dozen newspaper executives met in Chicago Thursday to discuss the future of the struggling industry and come up with ways to charge for their online content.
The gathering was part of the Newspaper Association of America’s annual event and included top executives from the New York Times, Gannett, E.W. Scripps, McClatchy, Hearst Newspapers and MediaNews Group among others.
