Last week, the blogosphere erupted with screams of protest and condemnation following the revelation of death threats and personal attacks against blogger Kathy Sierra. In a show of support for Sierra, and in protest of the threats, popular blogger Robert Scoble vowed to not write any posts for a solid week.
Addicted to Blogging
I think I have officially got my wife hooked on blogging. Earlier this year she started a blog called Aditi World and now she is always looking for tips and insight in order to grow her daily traffic numbers and subscribers. Every evening you can find us battling for use of the computer so we can update our respective blogs.
Scoble Stops Blogging for a Week in Support of Sierra
I’m physically ill after reading what happened to Kathy Sierra. Maryam and several others here at PodTech asked me about it and are concerned since the same sites that are attacking Kathy also mentioned me and Maryam. Maryam is really freaked out about it. So am I.
The ROI of Blogging – Top Stories
Two months ago, Charlene Li of Forrester produced a report on the ROI of blogging by comparing the relative spend on blogs to the spend required for focus group based research.
Is Blogging Becoming The New Standard?
When blogs first hit the scene, there were many who passed the practice off as ‘just another Internet trend’ and doomed the medium to failure before it ever got off the ground. Years later, blogging is still around – and it’s rapidly joining the ranks of mainstream media as a source of breaking news.
Blogging & Preferences
When I worked for the man one of the things I learned was that everyone had a preferred method of communication. It could have been email, phone, fax, or even face to face. If you wanted to make the sale, close the deal, or solve the problem you not only had to figure out what that method was, but overcome your own bias and be willing to work in the medium your customer preferred.
Dan Rather’s Blogging “Gray Area”
CNET sat down with former CBS news anchor Dan Rather at the recent SXSW conference and got his opinion on everything from blogs to net neutrality. Considering Rather pretty much lost his job at CBS due to bloggers questioning a report on President Bush’s National Guard service record, you’d think Rather would hate bloggers. Interestingly, Rather believes there is room for bloggers as serious journalists.
Spotting Blogging Opportunities in an Oversaturated Field
Common sense states that if you’re new to blogging, it’s going to be a lot easier for you to gain an audience if you pick a field that’s not oversaturated with high profile bloggers and thousands of new bloggers writing about the same subject.
Blogging a Parasitic Medium?
I kind of missed this one a few days ago, there being so many other things to blog about — YouTube and the BBC being the main one, I think — but Nick Carr’s latest post about bloggers and parasites sparked my interest again. I know that issues from more than two days ago are effectively ancient history as far as the blogosphere is concerned, but indulge me.
Sound Bite Blogging
For those people who blog daily or semi daily is there an optimal post length that keeps people reading regularly without feeling overwhelmed?
I fully admit to being a member of the short attention span generation. My life is busy enough I don’t need long introductions, set ups, or window dressing, just give me the goods and let me move on. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve watched a YouTube video and yelled to myself or out loud “get on with it already!”.
