SES – Day 1 Wrap up
I’m sitting in the final session of the day, Searcher Behavior Research Update, and I’ve completely zoned out. It’s not that the session isn’t interesting, to be honest, I don’t know if it is or not. I’m just brain-full. I can’t take anymore. I’m done. Good thing Rob and Diana are off in some other session diligently taking notes.
SES -How Search Integrates as a Brand Vehicle
Well I am at Search Engine Strategies San Jose; the weather is beautiful, the company great and the discussions so far excellent. The following are point form notes from an interesting seminar that discussed how search can be used to aid in branding instead of just as a direct response sales vehicle. Each point, stat or anecdote is in itself intriguing but overall add up to a helpful overview of how to use search to brand. Please brace yourself, however, this discussion went to many edges of the marketing universe so this post will have gems from many disciplines.
SES – Domaining & Address Bar-Driven Traffic Session
Plenty of people are searching for things by typing in words into their address bars, slapping on a .com and figuring they’ll get to a relevant site. More and more, domainers are ensuring they don’t draw a blank. Domainers purchase popular generic domain names and populate the sites with ads from the major search networks. Learn how the business is growing, how it can deliver relevant traffic to advertisers, as well as issues with typo domains and opt-out issues.
SES – Personalization, User Search & Data Session
This year, Google made its personalized search service much more the default for many users. Other search engines have user data that could be used to reshape search results. This session looks at existing and possible moves in the space.
SES – PR Train Wrecks Don’t Address SEM
I attended my first session of the day at Search Engine Strategies (SES) San Jose in order to learn more about bad PR as it relates to SEO. Oops, no search discussed here.
SES – Takeaways
I am going to try and take a different approach on how to report on what’s happening here at Search Engine Strategies San Jose. If you want detailed coverage on all the sessions I would recommend checking out Tamar Weingberg at SERoundTable or the Bruce Clay Blog.
SES Video – Tim Mayer of Yahoo
Going through proper channels, I was able to coordinate a short video interview with Tim Mayer of Yahoo. I’m a bit of a Yahoo fan and it was great being able to chat with Tim for a few minutes before we recorded on the various questions other speakers suggested.
SES: Ad Exchanges Are Changing The Game
There’s a new frontier in online advertising: ad exchanges. Operating more like a stock exchange than a traditional auction, ad exchange networks seek to make better use of the long-tail of search destinations by matching up unused inventory with appropriate advertisers.
