Predictions in New Media for this Year
I’ve written about the trend of ad dollars going from traditional to New Media. Analysts at The Kelsey Group have a list of predictions for the new year.
Coalition Groups Call For Open Mobile Access
Mobile Internet access is being hailed as the next great revolution as an estimated 3 billion handheld devices are sold (about 38 per second). Comparatively, less than half that number have fixed, wired connections. But universal access advocates warn that half of the world (or at least the ones in the United States) will not enjoy all the Internet has to offer.
Interesting New Google Earth Sky Feature
After the launch of Google Earth’s sky feature in August last year, see: Get Ready To Explore Space With Google Earth! made us experience the space in a totally new way.
In-House SEM Salaries: Quite a Range
Earlier today we discussed some mind boggling statistics about search marketing and its efficacy, see: PPC Ads Are Ignored 88.5% Of The Time!. Another study, this time about search marketers by SEMPO, explores the earning potentials of SEMs. The salaries actually have a surprising range, with the lowest ones bordering around minimum wages $60/year to the highest ones being around $70,000 a year.
Still More Acquisition Rumors: Google And Yell
Every slow Friday turns into a day for rumors, and as it turns out, this one was also a day for discussing the Yellow Pages industry. Now something’s come about that combines the two subjects: a rumor that Google will buy Yell, a UK Yellow Pages company.
Google Hacking Not Fun For You
Securing one’s server is a waste of time if someone leaves a spreadsheet full of usernames and passwords where it can be found with a public search.
Microsoft’s Sweet New Ad Intelligence Tool
I hate to curse, but this tool is bad ass. Ad Intelligence is a new keyword tool from Microsoft which is well worth using, and will probably force Google and Yahoo to make better keyword tools.
The Issue with Hyping Social Media
In most markets worth being in and with most sustainable business models, sales is not a one time event, but a process. You first have to create awareness, then build trust, then finally make the sale.
ClikitySplit Takes On Local Search
Jim Clouse, who prefers "visionary" to CEO or founder, isn’t saying ClikitySplit is the next Google-killer, but he is saying it’s a clear alternative to traditional search engines, especially for brick-and-mortar store marketers looking to level the playing field. But he will go as far as to say ClikitySplit fits his definition of Web 3.0, which incarnates as "visual online marketing."
Treat Readers Like High Schoolers to Gain Subscribers
At least when it comes to their reading comprehension. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Less people will complete a doctorate as will complete a four year undergraduate degree. Less people will compete a four year degree as will graduate high school. Less education usually means less reading and less reading leads to a lower level of reading comprehension. If the words and sentences you use are too complex a number of people who might otherwise appreciate what you have to say may have trouble following how you’re saying it.
