There are many web designers who are honest and will tell you exactly what you need to do to have a successful web site. Yet, there are others who want to create some fancy gadgets on your site, charge you a fortune, and completely rip you off… while you are watching your money go down the drain.
Marketing is an essential part of building a profitable business. Even if your customers come entirely from one customer telling another, your sales go nowhere unless you have a way to get the word out.
We hear it all the time: “Banners don’t work anymore!” But did ‘banners’ ever really work in the first place?
The latest published figures seem to suggest that the average click-thru-rate (CTR) for a banner ad on the Internet is between 0.15% and 0.3%. That is 1.5 to 3 per thousand.
Every customer looks for 3 special benefits when they do business with you. They may not specifically ask for these benefits. But you’re losing sales if you don’t automatically provide all 3.
After 2 years of designing Web Sites, I decided to take a peek at one of my customer’s log files. My fear isappeared after about 10 seconds of looking at it. In the midst of some weird symbols and long lines of funny characters, was able to see something familiar. It was the site’s web address! Of course! That is what people see when they come to this site and that is what the web server writes in the log file!

I’m sure you’ve all seen X10.com’s ‘pop-under’ ad on just about every website imaginable. It has been one of the most successful marketing campaigns in the short history of the Internet, mainly because it’s a new form of impression on the potential customer. No one expects a ‘pop-under’ window.
