Tabbing Google And Yahoo

Both Yahoo and Google offer tons of features to try and make one’s search a more complete experience, allowing users to dig for all kinds of information through a variety of different types of search. While Google tends to be the most used search engine, Yahoo wins has some areas Google could learn something from in the form of customizable search.

Gary Price over at Search Engine Watch discussed at some length the possibility of Google adding custom search tabs. Yahoo has already played with the customizable tab options with a number of their search options. He discusses the fact that Yahoo allows users to determine which of the database tabs they want on their home page. He also said he would like to see Yahoo add Audio Search to its tabs section.

He suggested Google could consider using such a tool in their search that allows users to access some of their more frequented search options like the blog search, the Google Print or Google Scholar. He also said one thing that would be nice was being able to carry over a query from one search to the next too.

Price raised some good points on the way the two search engines could offer some improvements to help their users’ experience. Adding the tabs to Google and improving the tabs Yahoo currently offers was the focal point. It makes sense though because as good as both searches are, there is always room for improvement.
