NBC Back On YouTube

Back in October, NBC took its popular, officially-sanctioned clips off YouTube in favor of their coming Hulu. I (and many others) derided the decision: [I]s it really wise to pull your content from the most popular video site online to put it on your own untested, unproven and apparently behind-schedule video site? On the Internet, you have to go where the people are—it’s not an ‘if you build it, they will come’ world anymore.

Pie Throwers Accuse YouTube Of Censorship

A—which adjective goes with this group…radical? Extremist? Keystone-Koppish?—12 Monkeys-esque environmental group called The Greenwash Guerillas have accused YouTube of censoring a video of them throwing pies at Pulitzer Prize-winning author Thomas Friedman. If you haven’t heard of New York Times columnist Friedman via his lengthy journalism career, you may have heard of him because of his book The World Is Flat, which got a lot of attention last year.

YouTube, Google Video Grab 77% of Vid Market

Google may dominate around two-thirds of the search market, but the company’s grip around the online video market is tighter. Hitwise reports that YouTube and Google video combined grab over 77 percent of US video visits.In March, YouTube snagged 73.18 percent of US visits, a 32 percent increase over March 2007. Despite decreasing by 52 percent, Google Video maintained third place at 4.06 percent, compared to 8.42 percent last year.

Thoughts On A YouTube Generation

A little over ten years ago, my father retired from 30 years of teaching middle school world history and geography, and my mother kicked herself upstairs to the countywide administrative level after 25 years of teaching law and justice and geography. (Yeah, I know my social studies, right?) Before their departures from the classroom, though they have agreed on little else since I’ve known them, they agreed on this: Kids are different these days.
