Java Applets and Shutting down Windows 98

Dear Carey,

I have two problems: When I try to start my Ameritrade streamer, the streamer console comes up but the applet menu does not appear. I just get the small square box at the top with the red, blue & green boxes within it. The applet menu does not appear. It was working fine, not sure what happened. It uses Java Web Start. I have tried all their suggestions.

2nd, most of the time, when I go to shut Windows down, it goes to where it says Windows is shutting down and then just stays there. I have Windows 98 and Interenet Explorer 6.0

Thanks

CDRW software and Windows XP

Hi Carey,

I just bought an EMachine that has a CDRW, but it didn’t come with software like Roxio. I know that XP has built in software, but it isn’t user friendly. When I tried to load my Roxio platinum I encounterd the problem you addressed on your site where the recorder disappears.

Is there a solution to the problem? A different piece of software that would work with xp? I’m at a loss.

Thanks,
Michelle

Debugging Options In Windows

Hello Carey:

Im running win2k pro, my problem is it has a debugger that runs when a program malfunctions or you click on a website stored on my desktop, or try to open a folder at times. [ It dont run often but enough to bug the h— out of me ]…….

Well i could accept the debugger if it worked right, but it takes it forever to debug or it never stops debugging. Is a debugger necessary , or can i de-activate it? I’ve looked every where for it but cant find it,,, I’ve even done a registry search but never found it yet. Is there a way i can delete the registry key to get this debugging prog to stop bugging me? Or is there even a reg key for it?

Any help or info will be greatly appreciated..

Thank You.

Windows Screensavers Explained

Have you ever asked yourself a question like “What is a screensaver actually?” I did. And now I will gladly share the results of my investigation. As you can see easily, splitting the word “screensaver” into two words will give us the phrase “screen saver”. This isn’t a rocket science and it’s clear that the phrase suggests our subject somehow saving the screen. So the word “screensaver” can be applied to some sort of good things that save the screen of our so much beloved baby-computer. But what does it mean exactly? Who is going to harm our computer screen? Who could be such a bad person? The answer lies in the exact definition of screensavers.
