Last week, Google announced the end of some of its services, and among them was the ability for users to upload videos to Google Video. They said they would be refocusing their attention on building a more comprehensive video search engine, and why not? They’ve already got YouTube.
YouTube Offering Downloadable Videos
YouTube is now allowing downloads of some of the videos it hosts. While competing sites have offered the ability to download videos for some time, this is not a feature that YouTube has made available.
YouTube User Created Help Center Videos Rolling In
Back in September, YouTube announced that it was calling upon users of the popular video site to make "informative and creative" videos to embed in YouTube’s own help center.
Embed and Upload High Quality Videos with Facebook
Facebook has just started allowing users to upload higher quality videos, and start embedding them on other sites in classic embeddable-video fashion. YouTube Takes Their Embedded Videos More Seriously
44% of YouTube users watch embedded videos. To be clear, that is not 44% of the site’s total views as NewTeeVee points out, but still nearly half of users are watching videos from other sites, blogs, social media profiles, etc.
MTV To Profit From Pirated MySpace Videos
If you thought YouTube’s click-to-buy feature was neat for music labels, allowing them to add links to purchase music on pirated videos featuring that music, you’ll love this: MTV has partnered with MySpace to identify videos posted to MySpace that are copyrighted by MTV, using audio and visual fingerprint technology. And here’s the good part: instead of getting medieval on pirated videos’ hineys, MTV gets to add ads.
