Microsoft is working on a new feature for Bing called "Bing and Ping." This is a means to share your search results with friends. Bing’s "decision engine" nature provides plenty of content that users may actually want to share. Nicholas Kerr of the Bing Team explains:
Digg Elaborates on New Search
Update: Digg shared some more details about how its search feature (relaunched earlier this year) works. Sammy on the company blog says:
" We’re using Apache SOLR/Lucene which helped us scale horizontally and solved many of our relevancy issues as well as enabling discovery of new content through facets. Beyond site search, the rich set of features has allowed us build a platform that enables other features such as Related By Source and Related By Keywords."
Global Search Market Grows Tremendously YOY
comScore has released some new numbers for the global search market. The highlight of the findings is that the market draws over 100 billion searches per month.
To be more specific, over 113 billion searches were conducted in July. This is a whopping 41% increase from a year ago. Obviously, Google sites received the bulk of these searches.

Real-Time Search Engine Attracts $7 Million Funding
OneRiot, one of the real-time search engines whose name we keep hearing again and again has secured $7 million in Series C funding from Appian Ventures, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, and Spark Capital, the company’s existing venture capital firms.
"This commitment from our existing investors is a big vote of confidence in the realtime search market, OneRiot’s product offering, and our team’s ability to execute," said Kimbal Musk, OneRiot’s CEO.
Search as Navigation On the Rise
Compete has shared some interesting data indicating that web users are increasingly using search engines to simply navigate to the sites they want to visit. For example, they are typing "facebook" in Google rather than just going to facebook.com from their address bar.
Following is a look at the fastest growing search terms according to Compete, for the top five search engines. You’ll notice that this list is largely dominated by brand names.
