Well, it looks like the most popular video site on the Internet is making somebody money—but it might not be Google. Universal Music Group reports that YouTube is making them “tens of millions of dollars.” Rio Caraeff, executive vice president of Universal Music Group’s eLabs and head of their digital group, told CNET:
Jupitermedia Reports Earnings Are Down
Jupitermedia Corporation has released its earnings report for the third quarter of 2008.Revenues for the third quarter of 2008 were $31 million down from revenues of $34.8 million for the same period last year. The company says its loss per diluted share was $0.63 and included non-cash stock based compensation expense, legal fees related to the recent signed stock purchase agreement with Getty Images.
Sohu Reports Strong Second Quarter
The best of China will be put on display during the Olympics – the most beautiful landscapes, the cleanest streets, and the happiest citizens. Don’t be surprised if a Sohu banner turns up, too, as the search company’s second-quarter results were quite impressive.
Baidu Reports Positive Second Quarter
While that Microsoft-Yahoo business stole the show for a while, Baidu’s found its way into the spotlight again. The Chinese search engine company had an admirable second quarter, beating analysts’ estimates in some important respects.

The market’s doing its best imitation of a healthy Superman this morning – up, up, and all that – but Jupitermedia has been left on the sidelines. Following the corporation’s report on its fourth quarter earnings, Jupitermedia’s stock is acting in a less than heroic fashion.
Salesforce.com Reports Strong Fourth Quarter
Since the beginning of October, the Dow has dropped nearly 1,400 points. Even Google’s lost its glow. But Salesforce.com just posted fourth quarter financial numbers that beat analysts’ expectations and represent year-over-year increases in almost every way possible.

Google announced that their server traffic tracker Analytics is starting to roll out a couple of new features in the coming weeks. Also – good timing – a new version of the desktop sibling to Analytics, Urchin, will be available.
The Crowd Reports on Virginia Tech
As horrific as the circumstances at Virginia Tech were, as a journalist it was fascinating to watch the information about the shootings filter out through the students and faculty at the college, by way cellphones and webcams, blogs and Facebook accounts, Flickr photos and LiveJournal updates. The Wikipedia page was updated minute by minute (the page of edits makes for interesting reading). Another example of “crowdsourcing” the news.
Google Maps Gets Real-Time Traffic Reports
Just once, I’d like to see somebody launch something cool from the Heartland out, instead of the other way around. Whatever it is, big cities get it first, worry about the red states later. Because if you want to take advantage of Google Maps’ new real-time traffic reporting, you’ll have to not live in Lexington, Kentucky.
Google Reports RSS Subscriber Figures
Google is now reporting how many of its users are subscribed to website’s feeds, by including the subscriber info in the header its Feedfetcher spider leaves when it grabs a feed.
