There’s been a lot of redesign talk lately among big names, most notably Facebook and Yahoo!. Twitter announced today that it was rolling out a new design. This design turns out to be pretty much all about aesthetics rather than improved user experience. Don’t worry. If you think the design is missing some things that you would like to see added, Twitter is accepting feedback, and had this to say:
WSJ.com Launches Redesign
The Wall Street Journal will introduce a new redesign to its Web site WSJ.com on Tuesday that will offer more social networking features and improved navigation. The Journal Community will allow the company’s 1 million or so paid subscribers to comment on articles, ask experts questions, and join discussion groups.
Yahoo! News Getting Redesign, Good for Blogs
Yahoo! News has a new redesign in the works, and in a move that will make many bloggers and "citizen journalists" happy, they are giving some love to blog posts that are covering popular news stories. On what appears to be each article page, there is a section for "most blogged" within the particular category you happen to be in.
Facebook Redesign Days Away
Facebook’s discussed its plans, altered them according to developers’ feedback, and given users an opportunity to step forward or hang back as they please. Now, whether folks are ready or not, Facebook will roll out its new profile design over the next week or so.
Google Maps Redesign in the Works?
Philipp Lenssen over at Google Blogoscoped has happened across what appears to be a possible redesign in the works for Google Maps. The thing is, not everyone can see it. Luckily, he includes screenshots. Philipp had this to say about it:
Google Finance Gets One New Site, Universal Redesign
Finance junkies have probably noticed by now; even the fast-paced world of tech news is slow for people who spend all their time hitting "refresh." Still, the existing Google Finance sites have received an overhaul, and Google Finance China has launched.
Google Book Search Homepage Redesign
The Google Book search homepage just received a redesign (some of you were able to spot this prototype before, but it just went live for all). It now looks more like book shelf than straight-forward search engine; instead of the typical Google logo + input box, you’ll be seeing a couple of pre-selected covers as images, making for a more explorative approach.
Navy to Redesign Building Due to Google Maps
Quite some time back, I came across this Swastika-shaped building via Google Maps, and posted the screengrab in my Flickr account. Since then, it became one of my most popular Flickr pictures, since strange stuff like this can become quickly viral.
MyBlogLog Name Change, Redesign Imminent
When the Five Hundred sedan didn’t sell well, Ford renamed it after a much older model, the Taurus. Ford didn’t change the car in any substantial way, but name recognition is everything, right? Now Yahoo may be attempting to apply that theory to MyBlogLog; a name change is in the works, and other, more substantial, alterations should also take place.
MeasureMap Behind Google Analytics Redesign
I suspected that either MeasureMap was a wasted acquisition, or they were being tasked with fixing the overcomplicated and user-unfriendly interface that Google Analytics bore. As recently as yesterday, I asked “What happened to MeasureMap”? Well, turns out that yesterday’s redesign of Google Analytics, while something most people haven’t seen yet, is a success, was done by those same MeasureMap guys. Why am I not suprised?
