Reading the latest issue of Consumer Electronics publication TWICE I came across their list of the top 100 Major Appliance Retailers and was struck by how there are no online companies on the list.
Books Most Purchased Item Online
Globally, the most popular items to purchase online are books with 41 percent of Internet users doing so in the last three months according to Nielsen Online.Among U.S. Internet users 38 percent bought books in the past month. In the UK 45 percent of Internet users have bought books online and in Germany 55 percent had done the same.
Fotolog Purchased By Hi-Media
Photo sharing site Fotolog has been purchased by Hi-Media Group, a Paris-based interactive media company.
Bix.com Purchased By Yahoo
Yahoo has purchased Bix.com an online site devoted to allowing users to rate and share photos, video, singing, writing, dance, comedy and beauty. Users compete in contests for prizes ranging from cash to other corporate incentives.
Odeo Purchased Back by Founder
The development, launch, growth and (minor) failure of Odeo, is a strange story. When the company, founded by Blogger co-founder Evan Williams, launched back in February of 2005, it raised $5 million in VC, but never really raised our attention.
Calpine Purchased and Deploys Peribit Sequence Reducers
Peribit Networks announced today that Calpine has purchased and deployed Peribit Sequence Reducers. Calpine’s WAN optimization initiative, which included Peribit equipment, enabled Calpine to save $3.5 million per year in communications costs, providing a four-month ROI, and increase application performance by replacing its frame relay service with a WAN VPN service.
