Opera has announced the release of the beta version of its latest mobile browser – Opera Mini 5. Opera Mini is the most popular mobile web browser in the world, the company claims.
Yahoo Games Popular In Japan
Japan’s online gaming population has increased 28 percent over the past year to 16.5 million visitors in July 2009, and reaching nearly one fourth of Japan’s online population, according to a new report from comScore.
"As a growing number of people turn to the Internet as an entertainment channel, many online gaming sites have seen their traffic levels swell to record numbers," said Maru Sato, managing director of comScore Japan.
Content Sites More Popular Than Social Networks
The majority (53.1%) of Internet users belong to at least one social networking site, but the amount of time spent on the sites is somewhat short, compared to overall time spent online, according to a new report from Burst Media.
Among 18-34 year olds, 40 percent spend less than 30 minutes per day on sites like Facebook and MySpace. The top content categories for that demographic actively seek out entertainment news (48.6%), gaming (40.5%), local/national news (37.3%) and social media (35.5%).
Facebook Most Popular Social Site In Australia
More than 70 percent of Internet users in Australia visited a social networking site in June, up 29 percent from the previous year, according to a new study from comScore.
"Social networking continues to grow in popularity both across Australia and throughout the world," said Will Hodgman, comScore executive vice president for the Asia-Pacific region.
MySpace Way More Popular Than Twitter.com
You wouldn’t know it from the amount of media attention that Twitter receives these days, but MySpace.com is still way more popular than Twitter.com in the US. It’s not getting the visitors of Facebook.com, but in July MySpace.com had 59,613,985 unique visitors, while Twitter.com had 23,284,395, according to Compete.
Online Back-to-School Shopping Not Too Popular
It doesn’t look like too many people plan to do their back-to-school shopping online. eMarketer looks at a combination of studies from BIGresearch and the National Retail Federation, Deloitte, and OfficeMax. These studies paint similar pictures, and they just don’t show too many intentions from parents to turn to the web as the school year draws near.
Facebook Most Popular Social Site In The U.K.
Nearly thirty million (29.4) people in the U.K. accessed at least one social networking site in May, averaging 4.6 hours per visitor during the month, with Facebook ranking as the most popular property, according to comScore.
Local Content Popular With Mobile Users
The number of people looking for local information on a mobile device grew 51 percent from March 2008 to March 2009, according to comScore.
The mobile browser is the most popular access method for finding local information, with 20.7 million users in March 2009, up 34 percent over a year ago. The strongest growth in the category is coming from downloaded applications, which grew 83 percent compared to a year ago, followed by SMS at 72 percent.
Hulu Now The Third Most Popular Video Site
U.S. Internet users watched 14.5 billion online videos in March, representing an increase of 11 percent over February, according to comScore.
Google sites once again ranked as the most popular video property with 5.9 billion videos viewed (40.9 percent online video market share), with YouTube accounting for more than 99 percent of all videos viewed at the property.
