Last week, I wrote an article about the new Yahoo Poker site, and while researching it, I sent an inquiry to yahoopoker at pokerresponse.com (the address provided by the “Contact Us” page). The next day, a reply directed me to a certain Yahoo employee. But the email had passed through several people’s hands, and one individual had – in his own words – “googled” me.

Google’s no wimp, but it never hurts to have help when doing battle with a company like Microsoft. A rumored partnership with Salesforce.com would provide just that, although the financial details (or even any information about the resulting products) are still unknown.

Yahoo and 12 U.S. newspaper companies have reached an agreement that expands their partnership by combining newspapers local news and advertising reach with Yahoo’s resources and audience.
The McClatchy Company is the latest newspaper publisher to sign on with the consortium. The group now includes 264 papers in 44 states, along with numerous distribution channels that benefit advertisers, readers and companies that participate.
Yahoo’s HotJobs division and the Job Network have entered into a partnership designed to aid newspapers in posting employment advertising to the HotJobs Web site, the third largest job site on the Web.
"We believe this agreement will help the nation’s community newspapers protect and enhance their leadership role in recruitment/employment advertising," said Marc Wilson, president of The Job Network. "Newspapers hold the traditional role of serving their communities’ advertising needs. This alliance should strengthen that role."
Priceline.com has entered into an agreement with Zagat Survey, which will provide exclusive online hotel reviews for priceline customers to access for free.
Zagat survey information will cover hotels, restaurants, attractions in the US and some international locations. The Zagat information, along with traveler reviews from priceline customers will feature more than 600 cities and thousands of hotels, restaurants and attractions.
IBM and Google have partnered to bring Google Gadgets to WebSphere Portal allowing users to create, customize and use Internet applications directly within the portal. In April, IBM will release a version of WebSphere Portal that will allow users to search an Internet directory of Google Gadgets that will operate on IBM’s software.
Users will be able to select from around 4,000 Google Gadgets such as language translators, package delivery tracking, Wikipedia information and YouTube postings. These features can be accessed through a company’s portal.
When Google Apps Premier Edition was released yesterday, it became the subject of more than a few news stories. Expect to see another round of them once a new deal between Google and Avaya bears fruit. Avaya has promised to integrate “communications” – e.g., voice – with Google Apps.
MSN and Windows Live have chosen to try and gain the hearts and pageviews of China’s growing Internet userbase by teaming their job search with Baidu’s paid search ads.
