Nathan has uncovered the dollar amount Google spent in promoting Google Checkout in 2006 – $58 million. As Nathan points out, that’s the amount spent in promotions and $10-$30 coupons by Google, in an attempt to take some market share from PayPal.

It’s not every day that a press release begins with the words “BOOM BOOM BOOM,” and yet that’s exactly how Eons, a media company that caters to the 50-plus crowd, chose to announce its receipt of a fresh $22 million in funding. It looks like there’s plenty o’ life in Eons yet (and hopefully in its users, as well).
In a press release, Vantage Media has announced that it has concluded a $70 million Series A preferred financing that is led by Montgomery & Co. Scale Venture Partners. Two others who participated in the round were Tudor Ventures and Integral Capital Partners.
Retrevo, which has labeled itself “the ultimate in consumer electronics search,” reportedly became $3.2 million richer today. The company acquired the money through a venture financing round.

The US online dating market continues to grow but faces a slow down in the number of users paying for access, according to a study by JupiterResearch. European online dating sites are growing as well and are attracting new users. Revenues will double from 243 million euros in 2006 to 549 million euros in 2011, according to the JupiterResearch online dating forecast.

It’s surprising, then, that LinkedIn recently went to the trouble of collecting $12.8 million more in a round of financing.
