The Yahoo search experience might at some point change in a very surprising way. That Bing may take over, we’ve come to accept. But at least one high-ranking Yahoo employee thinks Google could get a shot, too.
Let’s talk about said employee for a moment. Burke Culligan is the senior director of product planning and strategy over Yahoo’s front page and My Yahoo, so he’s in a good position to discuss significant adjustments. Also, Culligan’s worked for Yahoo since October of 2005, so it’s not like he’s some newbie who doesn’t know the score.
YouTube Letting Partners Serve Their Own Ads
Today YouTube announced that some partners who sell their own ads will be able to serve the ads directly into their videos, as YouTube is trying out FreeWheel, which manages video ad inventory. In the past, ads sold by partners were still served by YouTube.
Democrats Letting Net Neutrality Die
Here was what was supposed to happen: With telco-friendly Republican Congress members swept out of the way, Democrats would usher in legislation enshrining Network Neutrality principles and give the FCC the power to enforce them.
Here’s what happened (is happening) instead: The most powerful Net Neutrality supporters (Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton) are kicked upstairs while cable-and-Hollywood-friendly Democrats are killing Network Neutrality legislation in committees.
Google Letting Users Post Their Health Records Online
Before we get started I need to tell you that I will need to fight a strong bias here to write about the issue of health records online. I have some background in the use, power and neglect of medical records from my days in the insurance business.
Can Your Business Benefit By Letting Users Hide Ads?
Contrary to what advertisers might like to believe, not everyone wants to see their ads. This is why televsion advertisers don’t like TiVo. Advertising is how a lot of online businesses make their bread and butter though, and without ads, they simply could not generate enough revenue to stay alive. At least one online business believes that allowing users to turn off ads might actually be in its best interest.
Facebook Letting Some Users Rate Ads
Given the option of voting ads "up" or "down," a natural response is to either vote them all down (who likes ads?) or ignore the issue (since any participation would waste time). Still, Facebook’s allowing some users to have a say which is a move in the right direction.
IOC Thinks About, Maybe, Letting Athletes Blog
The International Olympic Committee said athletes competing at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing could possibly be allowed to blog about it – maybe – if they have to – but they’re still not really sure if it’s a good idea.
The Danger of Not Letting Your Bloggers Know
What’s the danger of not letting your internal bloggers know about your product release plans?
Are you letting Feedburner hold you hostage?
I don’t have a problem with Feedburner (I use their service myself and I think it’s great), so please don’t think that I’m picking on them.
Are You Letting Sales Slip Away?
Recently, I spent an afternoon with some friends at a go-cart track. We had the time of our life each pretending to be world class race car drivers. Although we were older than most of the people there we felt young and alive. We committed to doing this again and soon!
