Google and Yahoo issue press releases on a daily basis, but it’s been a busy month for Local.com, as well. The local search engine launched an advertising program, appointed a new Vice President of Product Management, and, earlier today, made a new mobile service available.
Local Guides Launches Beta
Local Matters yesterday announced the launch of their new site, LocalGuides.com, which mashes up Local + Social + Vertical content and utilities. The site is really strong with some compelling features, so I’ve kicked the tires and have a few technical comments.
TiVo Launches Search For Broadband Users
DVR innovator TiVo has announced a new Universal Swivel Search feature for its broadband users, which allows them to search broadband, cable, and broadcast programming.
MySpace Launches Tool To Fight Infringement
MySpace has launched a new copyright protection tool in an effort to combat infringing video content. The tool called "Take Down Stay Down" prevents users from re-posting videos that have been previously removed at the request of copyright owners.
Hotmail Launches ‘Email Britain’ Campaign
To celebrate the UK launch of the new Windows Live Hotmail, the UK’s no 1 email service has announced a unique collaboration with the British Library, to create the first ever archive of British emails today.
Salesforce Launches Startup Incubator
Salesforce launched an incubator for startups. It is a similar proposition to the Socialtext Coworking space, but has a cost for the startup and is structured as a partnership program. A BusinessWeek article interviewed me about it.
MySpace Launches Spanish Site
MySpace is attempting to broaden its reach and appeal with the beta launch of MySpace en Español, a new Spanish-language version for U.S. based Hispanics. They are also launching a new regional site in Spanish for Latin American residents and have plans for localized communities in Mexico and Brazil.
MySpace News Launches
Sometime this morning MySpace will lift the lid on their new MySpace News feature. MySpace News will scour thousands of news sources via RSS and group them in hundreds of categories. MySpace readers will then vote on which stories are the most popular.

YouTube Launches CitizenTube
YouTube has created a channel for the politically minded and has launched CitizenTube. Their goal is to attract people to express themselves using video on political topics covering local, state, national and international politics.
Steve Grove, YouTube’s News and Political Editor will edit the channel. The channel will aggregate political videos that currently exist on the site as well as new user generated content. They also request political video links that users think deserve more attention.
Adobe Launches Creative Suite 3
Adobe Systems has launched their Adobe Creative Suite 3 product line, the company’s largest software release in their 25-year history. The product line offers integrated design and development tools for graphic artists and web designers.
Creative Suite 3 brings together Adobe and Macromedia products that will give designers and developers a number of options for print, Web, mobile interactive, film and video production.
