IBM, Google Partner

IBM and Google have partnered to bring Google Gadgets to WebSphere Portal allowing users to create, customize and use Internet applications directly within the portal. In April, IBM will release a version of WebSphere Portal that will allow users to search an Internet directory of Google Gadgets that will operate on IBM’s software.

Users will be able to select from around 4,000 Google Gadgets such as language translators, package delivery tracking, Wikipedia information and YouTube postings. These features can be accessed through a company’s portal.

Google Makes Sales Call To Federal Government

When you consider that Google’s net income in 2006 was well over $3 billion, it becomes apparent that individual customers don’t matter much to the company’s overall business. Google may be trying to change that, however: yesterday and today, it’s holding a special sales meeting with “nearly 200 federal contractors, engineers and uniformed military members.”

Google Maps Gets Real-Time Traffic Reports

Just once, I’d like to see somebody launch something cool from the Heartland out, instead of the other way around. Whatever it is, big cities get it first, worry about the red states later. Because if you want to take advantage of Google Maps’ new real-time traffic reporting, you’ll have to not live in Lexington, Kentucky.

Google Allows Canadian Adwords Qualification

Google took a big step recently by finally allowing Canadian companies to become Adwords Qualified; a stamp of a approval previously denied to Google’s ignored neighbors. Yes, that is ever so subtle bitterness you sense. Thankfully however I can begin to put to rest my ill will now that Google has come to its senses.

Google R&D To Set Up Shop In Singapore?

According to recent reports, Google is preparing to invade Singapore (in a friendly, build-a-research-and-development-center kind of way). This center would be the company’s first such establishment in Southeast Asia, although Google has yet to officially confirm the reports.

Google Shows Ask It Can Take A Joke

Less than a month ago, a Google pen ran out of ink while Scott Grieder, a Group Product Manager at Ask.com, was trying to take notes with it. Ask pointed this out in a witty (and somewhat disparaging) blog post, and now Google has sent its competitor at least one more pen, along with an amusing note of its own.
