Ask.com has gotten a lot of flack over its “algorithm” ad campaign, and it seemed possible that the publicity might hurt, rather than help, the company. Now one survey has revealed that many people didn’t even associate the ads with Ask.com – instead, they believed those strange and controversial messages were coming from Google.
Google is offering users a way to report paid links in an effort to provide searchers with better results, a move that has generated plenty of discussion.
In an apparent change of heart Google canceled their "Let Freedom Ring" event that would have been an attempt to steal eBay’s thunder and attract sellers away from the eBay Live event.
Google’s serious about creating relationships with the greater Academia – its founders were collegiate all-stars building printers out of Legos, and of course badly-named search engines (Google was once called BackRub, we imagine because that was Larry Page’s best pickup line) – ahem, as more and more universities turn their email systems over to the search engine company.

Google added a new section to webmaster central today entitled “report paid links”. How anyone other than me or quite possibly my book keeper know whether a link is paid or not is very questionable, but let’s dig just a little deeper shall we.

Google recently added the ability for you to report link buyers, which is probably nothing more than a mind control game and a complete waste of time. I recently saw what looked like obvious link buying by Discovery.com. Do you think Google would do anything about it if I reported them? Nope.
