FCC Declares Comcast’s Filtering Illegal
It’s official, as far as the FCC is concerned, that Comcast’s throttling of peer-to-peer traffic was illegal and in violation of the FCC’s network neutrality principles. The highly expected ruling came down today, with Chairman Kevin Martin crossing the political aisle to join commissioners Copps and Adelstein, serving Comcast with a cease-and-desist order.

Comcast Stands By Its Internet Filtering
Comcast has admitted that it intentionally slows down some traffic on its network, including music and movie downloads. The company said in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission that slowing the transfer of music or video between subscribers sharing files is necessary to manage traffic flow over its network.

Yesterday Flickr introduced a new feature on their service called "Filtering." Filtering is a tool whereby users can designate their desired level of browsing (i.e. show me everything on Flickr un-filtered, or screen out material that has been tagged inappropriate by the user community). It also allows users the ability to designate in advance if they feel that things that they are uploading might be considered objectionable and allowing them to mark their images accordingly.
