Back in March, Murdok looked at how Facebook was driving more traffic to some websites than even Google was. While, that was certainly not the case for everybody, it was still fascinating to see.
Facebook Gives Businesses a Way to Increase Fans
Facebook recently announced the Live Stream Box, which lets webmasters integrate a real-time social viewing experience on their site. A spokesperson for Facebook tells Murdok, "Yesterday, CNN.com, MTV.com and other major networks implemented the technology for Michael Jackson’s Memorial, where about 1 million users posted approximately 800,000 status updates in just a few hours."
Create Events From the Facebook Publisher
Facebook has added a feature, which allows users to add events and invite people to them right from the publisher box. Now creating an event is pretty much as simple as sharing a link.
To add an event, just push the "more" arrow button on the publisher box, and you will find events. Once you fill out the form, it will be posted to you news feed, and you can invite guests from there.

Older Users (Sort Of) Overtake The Young On Facebook
Facebook is continuing to catch on with people who aren’t currently taking classes. Data provided by the social network indicates huge growth in the 55+ age group, and users between the ages of 35 and 54 now outnumber the 18- to 24- and 25- to 34-year-old sets.
Between January 4th and the 4th of July, there was an increase of 513.7 percent in the number of Facebook users older than 55. This means that about 5.9 million people who admitted to nearly or already being senior citizens can be found on the site.
Facebook Talks new Privacy Features
Murdok just sat in on a conference call and webcast with Facebook, where the social network’s upcoming changes to privacy settings were discussed. These were designed to give users more control over what they share with whom. Are you looking forward to privacy changes with Facebook? Share your thoughts.
Facebook Meets Google Checkout
Back in May, it was reported that Facebook was going to begin testing a payments system. This inevitably led to discussion about how Facebook might be preparing to take on products like PayPal and Google Checkout.

This week, Facebook announced some coming changes to your status updates. Soon, just like with Twitter, you’ll have the option to make them public—but not just to everyone on the world’s most popular social network, but everyone around the world. (You know, with Internet access.)
