It’s about to get harder to edit a Wikipedia entry. That is unless those who oppose the concept can come up with a better idea.
Who among us hasn’t encountered some false information on the site at one time or another. The goal here is to make Wikipedia, which is one of the most popular sites on the web, a more reliable place for obtaining accurate information. That can’t be a bad thing from the average user’s perspective.
Wikipedia is defined by its community contribution model, and so far, the approach has worked quite well. The German version of Wikipedia has been experimenting with an edit approval system, though, and it seems the system may be ready to spread.Under the stricter rules, anyone and everyone can still edit articles. The main difference is that new changes are kept out of public sight until a designated checker can look at and okay them.
Virgil Griffith’s Wikiscannner has helped uncover some new naughtiness by Sony, this time involving Wikipedia and a forthcoming competitor’s game title.
A client asked me today for more control in their Wordpress control panel. Specifically, when posting they wanted to control the font sizes, colors and do a bit more. As a designer I always freak at that question as I think the code is going to be filled with massive amounts of font tags and out of order strong tags and ohhh the madness. But, then again, maybe I’m overreacting.

Not everybody has access to a professional editor. Sometimes, you’re forced to edit your own writing – a danger some of us know all too well.
Much of what I do at my “day job” involves editing what others have written. Eliminating typos, repairing damaged grammar, replacing missing or misused punctuation–I relish editing, in a roll-up-my- shirtsleeves and rub-my-hands-together sort of way.
