Economy Drives Americans Online

More than half (69%) of adult Americans have gone online to get help with personal economic issues and to gather information about national economic problems, according to a new report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project.
Some 52 percent of Americans have had to cope with a major economic loss during the recession including 35 percent who have seen their investments lose more than half their value.

YouTube Drives Surge In Online Video Viewing

Americans viewed a record 16.8 billion videos online in April, a 16 percent increase over March, according to new data from comScore.
A surge in video viewing at YouTube during April contributed to the month’s significant gains.
Google sites were once again the most popular property with 6.8 billion videos viewed (40.7 percent online video market share), a 15 percent increase over March. YouTube accounted for more than 99 percent of all videos viewed at the property.

There have already been offers made and turned down, but one expert thinks the buyer will be Google or Yahoo because search can’t afford to miss out on Twitter’s potential as a disruptive force—the word “killer” once again deployed in hyperbolic force.

Hate Mail Drives Controversial Website Offline

It’s either a brilliant publicity stunt or one of the gutsiest t-shirt sellers on the Web really lost his nerve. The proprietor (undertaker?) of TshirtHell.com is closing up shop because he’s tired of dealing with hate mail. As a Web writer whose been on the receiving end of more than a few nasty comments, I can say, if you give in to hate mail the terrorists win. Regardless, “Sunshine Megatron” is just tired of it all.
