The AP is launching an all out assault on any use of its content that is not licensed (purchased) for use by Internet publishers and search engines. As I have said in the past, the AP is not just focusing on the blatant violators such as spam blogs or sites that quote paragraphs without attribution or link. On the contrary, the AP is specifically going after bigger mainstream blogs, Internet publications and believe it or not search engines such as Google.
Google Getting Desperate Trying To Monetize YouTube
I’m pretty sure that if it were not for its enormous size and price tag, Google would have shutdown YouTube along with all the other services that couldn’t turn a profit for the search giant. As it stands, Google has so much invested in the video sharing service that to fail would likely wipe at least a dollar from its share price.
Google Co-Founder or Desperate Man?
Some guy is claiming to be the third founder of Google. Hubert Chang has released a video in which he talks about helping Sergey Brin and Larry Page come up with PageRank, Google’s business model, and even the name "Google" back in 1997, but chose to pursue his Ph.D at NYU rather than attach his name to the Google project. Listen to what Chang has to say:
Desperate Consumers Searching For Gas Deals
Their queries may not yield more than a couple of cents difference in price, but even that adds up enough to compel people to search for gas price comparisons.
Adobe Isn’t Desperate
I’ve been playing around with Adobe Flex for a few days. Heard about them open sourcing the Flex SDK later this year. Didn’t think much of it, since it was already free. Then I read this from Dana. Maybe Dana has been wearing OSS goggles for a few too many days, but come on.
Microsoft And Universal: Desperate
Two things strike me about the deal between Microsoft and Universal Music, which will see the record company get a cut of every Zune player the software giant (theoretically) sells. The first is that such an arrangement is an obvious sign that Microsoft is desperate, and the second is that it’s an obvious sign that the major record labels are not just desperate but creatively bankrupt.
Is Intel Desperate?
Okay, someone explain this to me: Intel, a company that makes microprocessors, is backing and selling – but not profiting from – a suite of “Enterprise 2.0″ software for companies that includes blogging software (Typepad), a wiki (Socialtext), and RSS feed software (Simplefeed and Newsgator), called Suite Two.
Video-iPodding “Desperate Housewives”
Steve Jobs did it again. For just a brief moment, all eyes in the tech industry swung back to Cupertino to focus on what Steve Jobs was holding in his hand. This time it was the iPod Video. Apple already lined up video content with Disney including “Desperate Housewives” and with 150 hours of video, you can watch all the episodes.
Microsoft, Google Desperate For China Market
Shifting jobs and poaching executives show how much Microsoft and Google want the Chinese search market.
KPMG Desperate For Deal With DOJ
Accusations of improprieties in the sales of tax shelters have KPMG facing Arthur Andersen’s fate.
