Better Writing, Better Business: 4 Web Copy Reviews

A few days ago I spoke with Garrett to discuss some ideas I had for new articles, and he told me that he had countless requests for web site reviews. It seemed like a great opportunity to share my opinion on specific sites so I offered to write some reviews in lieu of an article. However, once I had a chance to look at the sites, I noticed that all the requests expressed more concern for finding the right key words and meta tags than they did for writing energetic, effective copy that attracts.

Erasure: One Step to Better Web Copy

The Roman poet Horace said, “You must often make erasures if you mean to write what is worthy of being read a second time.” Two thousand years later, those words still hold true.

If you’re responsible for the content of a website or newsletter, then erasures – editing – can make your words worthy of being read a FIRST time. Erasures are one thing you can do (or rather undo) to raise your content and your promotional materials above the mediocre writing that dominates the net.

Relationships Work Far Better Than Techniques

That’s why personal relationships are far more effective when it comes to getting people to say yes than the mastering of any sales technique.
