JPEG May Standardize Microsoft’s HD Photo Format
The Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG) said they would consider Microsoft’s HD Photo file format, tentatively titled JPEG XR, for open standard status. If standardized, Microsoft says the new format will usher in the next generation of digital imaging.

Pitching Speakers for a Conference or Event
I’ve been helping program the search marketing sessions for MediaPost’s upcoming OMMA event in September, and the first stage of it is reviewing dozens of conference pitches. Overall, it’s a promising bunch of proposals, and my biggest regret is that there are only six sessions I’m responsible for; I could easily have picked ten great ones, and I’ll still try to pawn some of the rejected panels to other programming chairs if they can be adapted.

Facebook’s Rates Rise By 100 Percent
Yesterday afternoon, Valleywag gave the world its first look at a Facebook rate card, and we discovered that, in February, the company charged $150,000 per sponsored group. Now a much more recent rate card has been published – this one’s from June – and Facebook has increased its fee to $300,000.
