Google Indexing Sites in 1 Day Again
I created a new site on Friday, and by Saturday exactly 24 hours later it was in Google’s Index. I posted about this just over a month ago in my post, 7 Steps to Get Your New Site Indexed in 24 Hours. I had a lot of comments about whether or not Adwords was necessary, so I thought I’d try it again without running Adwords this time. Here’s how it all played out:
CNET Calls JANA’s Proposal ‘Improper’
CNet Networks responded to hedge fund JANA Partners’ aggressive proposal to takeover the company upon acquiring a majority of shares in the company. CNet called JANA’s proposal "improper" and indicated that a takeover would not add value for stockholders.JANA Partners issued an announcement this morning and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission its intent to submit proposals to amend CNet’s bylaws in order to increase the size of the board of directors from eight to thirteen. The move came after JANA acquired 21 percent, or a majority stake, in the company.
How Much of a Distraction is Social Media?
In Friday’s post, I admitted the social media can be a waste of time. I talked about doing some unproductive things online and how, despite that (or even because of that), marketers should be paying a LOT of attention to social media marketing. But as many of you have commented in the first post, social media is really not a waste o

Hot on the heels of Google’s Android initiative, Yahoo is announcing its own developer platform. The Yahoo! Mobile Developer Platform will provide tools for developers to code and launch mobile widgets for a wide range of cell phones. Here are the details from Yahoo:
Kijiji Attempts to Take On Craigslist
The New York Times recently reported a story about Kijiji’s attempt to take on Craigslist. Though Kijiji has some decent traction globally, it had been an unknown in the US. Is that about to change?
Blogosphere Being Hard on Wikia Search
I’m generally in favour of bashing those who need to be bashed, and I definitely like taking the wind out of the Web 2.0 windbags (you know who you are), but I think the blogosphere is being a little hard on Wikia Search. Mike Arrington says that it’s a letdown, Allen Stern at Centernetworks
Google Maps Partners with Magellan on GPS
Barely one day in advance of the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show opening in Las Vegas this week, Magellan issued a press release about their next generation of GPS navigation devices, highlighting how they will come integrated with Google Maps to provide local search capabilities.
Custodial Maintenance of the Social Web
So despite all the hype I and others wrap around social media programs, there remains a very raw, very real and very unsexy part of this line of work that seldomly gets discussed — and that’s the ugly, but critical custodial maintenance of the social web. This is what I jokingly, err, awkwardly refer to as "Janitor 2.0"
