Emotional Intelligence: The Shot Felt ‘Round the World?
I just hung up the phone with Li-Yan, who wants me to come to Malaysia and present a workshop with her on emotional intelligence for businesses. She quit her corporate job there, because she found the work environment stifling, unethical and demoralizing. Now she wants to help businesses in Malaysia change to a more emotionally intelligent culture.
3.2v4.2 System Recovery
Disclaimer
I was called in recently to help with the recovery of an old SCO 3.2v4.2 system that had crashed. The crash had initially been caused by a power supply failure, but after replacing that hardware, the machine would not boot – it just hung after the kernel i/o buffers message. As a common cause for that is simply a missing or damaged inittab, I thought we might be able to fix it by booting from floppies and doing a manual repair. Unfortunately, there were no emergency boot floppies.
Getting Back To Search Engine Optimization Basics
When starting any SEO campaign it is tempting to leap straight in and start tweaking meta tags and changing text. However, like any successful marketing strategy, it is vital to ensure that you know whom your audience is and how to reach them. In the same way traditional advertising agencies survey their demographic audience, search engine marketers must ensure that their SEO campaign targets the correct keywords or search phrases. Target the wrong search phrase and you could end up with great search engine rankings for keywords that have no search requests. A few hours now spent ensuring that the correct search phrases are targeted, can save months of useless optimization.
Managing Performance Every Day
Your company has decided it needs to eliminate costs. Hundreds of jobs are on the line. The executives of each division have been directed to cut costs by 35%. The tension throughout the company is so thick you can cut it with a knife. You know some departments will be totally eliminated because the work can be outsourced to save money.

Notify Cell Phone of Incoming Mail

Many cell phones now have the ability to receive email. While that can be very useful, large messages are often a problem both because they are hard to read and because one large message may be split up into multiple messages at the phone.
Sometimes, though, it’s important that certain messages get to you even though they may be large. That’s the situation one of my Mitel (E-Smith) mail server customers had: mail sent to a certain account was very important to know about, but he didn’t want the entire message shipped to his cell phone. As it turns out, this was an easy problem to solve.
Failure is Not an Option
I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that online businesses — just like brick and mortar businesses — have a very high failure rate for startups. Ever wonder why that is? There are several business consultants, success gurus, and motivational experts who can tell you. The problem is: Most of us don’t listen.
Choose Keywords Wisely
Your keywords need to be chosen strategically – they need to truly reflect what your site is about. They need to be keywords people search for. They need to be used throughout your website strategically and correctly.
Sometimes It’s The Little Things That Count!
Recently, I decided to switch my web hosting company. I had been with my last hosting company for almost two years but I was having continuing problems with their system. So I switched and I am up and running without too much problem.
