Twitter to Search the Web in Real Time

Fun With Google Trademark Apps
It’s been long established that just because Google has registered a domain, it doesn’t mean the company has any plans other than keeping the domain out of non-company hands; googleblows.com is a good example. But what about trademark applications? That’s a bit more expensive and serious method of protecting certain names.
A quick search through trademark applications at the USPTO’s website brings back about 60 Google-related attempts at trademarking, many from Google and (surprisingly) many not from Google.
Wikipedia Founder Slams Wikipedia Art
Some controversy stirred up earlier this week after the Electronic Frontier Foundation stepped in on behalf of the creators of Wikipediaart.org, a site dedicated to a Wikipedia-related art project. The EFF was responding to demands by a lawyer for the Wikimedia Foundation, the parent company of Wikipedia, that the artists turn over control of the domain.
Does Your Company Practice SEM And SEO?
At the MediaPost Search Insider Summit, I got the opportunity to join a panel on social media and search with Darrin Shamo of Zappos and panel moderator Bob Heyman of MediaSmith (and co-author of the book Digital Engagement). Fair Use Battle Gets Weird, Kind of Stupid
These are rough times for the concept of fair use, especially when lawyers citing fair use as a defense don’t seem to quite understand it much more than those sending out cease and desist letters. The latest fair use kafuffle stems from the already ridiculous spat between Miss California, Carrie Prejean, and Perez Hilton.
Please don’t make me sum up what that was about; read about it at Wikipedia and come back.
Want to Get Your Google Profile Verified?
Now that Google is putting Google Profiles in search results, you might want to consider getting verified. You have to go through a process to do this however.
"Should you get a verified name? Right now, it doesn’t influence whether your profile will rank better in profile results," says Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land. "But if you’re trying to convince people to trust that the page is really controlled by you, it probably makes sense."
Google Offers Money, Fame To Young Artists
Courtesy of Google, quite a few artistically inclined young people are going to have a great summer. The search giant has announced a new phase in its annual Doodle 4 Google competition, and it’s also started a Google Photography Prize contest.
