Adopting Social Media For Internal Use

Results from an interesting study with a different spin on social media were released by Nielsen Norman Group. These things often look at social media adoption by businesses, but this one looks specifically at social media adoption within enterprise intranets.

The study found that many of the most successful social media initiatives on company intranets began as underground, grassroots efforts by front-line employees. They were later adopted and sanctioned by higher-level executives.

Flickr Refines Search Results Pages

There is a lot of redesigning of Yahoo properties going on these days. Earlier today, some big changes were announced for delicious. The Yahoo homepage was recently redone of course. Now Flickr has redesigned its search results page. The company says the new design makes it easier to browse through the billions of photos and videos on the site, and to connect to the communities that can help make sense of them.

How Well Do You Know Google Maps Street View?

You may know a lot about Google Maps Street view, but you might not know everything there is to do with it. Perhaps you don’t know much at all. Either way, Google has set up a new site with the goal of making sure everyone who wants to know has access to all of the information that they need regarding Street View.

EU Says Internet Can Boost Economy

More than half (56%) of Europeans are now regular Internet users compared to one third in 2004, according to a new report from the European Commission.
Half of households and more than 80 percent of businesses now have a broadband connection.
The most active Internet users are those between the ages of 16 to 24 with 73 percent of them regularly using advanced services to create and share online content, twice the EU population average (35%).

Google News Organizes a Lot More of the World’s Information

Last year, Google News began digitizing newspapers to make them accessible and searchable online. Those interested in the online news industry and its relationship to newspapers will be interested to know that Google has quadrupled the number of articles included in the Google News Archive Search since the initiative began in September.
