Versata Logic Server on IBM eServer iSeries Running Linux Now Available

Versata today announced general availability of the Versata Logic Server, version 5.6.2, for the IBM WebSphere Application Server on IBM eServer iSeries hardware running Linux.

“Our release of the Versata Logic Server on iSeries is part of our global ‘go-to-market’ plan with IBM in the SMB market,” said Linda Giampa, vice president, World Wide Field Operations, Versata, Inc. “We’re seeing a global demand from IBM iSeries customers who want to support service-oriented applications and Java while leveraging their current investments in applications, systems and skills.”

Increasingly, market pressures are requiring small and medium-sized companies to modernize their IT environments to remain competitive. New Java development projects for business-critical applications can be a difficult obstacle for many SMBs to overcome due largely to cost, lack of skills or limited staff resources. Versata’s declarative development approach, based on business logic models and business rules, supports the skills available in the iSeries SMB market today.

“With the Versata Logic Suite, we were able to carry out the porting of our latest application to Linux and iSeries rather quickly. The results were convincing during load tests. In comparison with other Java tools and runtime environments that we had evaluated, Versata has addressed performance and resource requirements criteria extremely well,” said Klaus Heller, project head at Ametras Informatik AG. “Versata was able to handle over 4,000 concurrent user-loads while offering safe transaction processing. In addition, the software performed well on the iSeries and the declarative, model-driven architecture reduced our time-to-market dramatically.”

The recently developed Ametras Rental Service (ARS) is an ERP application designed to meet the needs of car rental companies. Key requirements included platform independence, workflow integration and support for integration with legacy systems. Ametras chose the Versata Logic Suite for a development and deployment platform because of its compatibility with existing RPG applications and its support for a variety of standards in addition to its compatibility with Java, IBM WebSphere, IBM iSeries, IBM DB2 and Linux. The software also allows existing RPG business logic to be made available in the form of web services – a capability which is becoming increasingly important for Ametras’ customers.

Feature highlights for the Versata Logic Server, version 5.6.2 release on IBM eServer iSeries include:

— Connectivity to Oracle and IBM DB2 Databases on Linux and IBM DB2 running natively on OS/400;

— J2EE packaging for simplified handling of custom components and deployment of applications; and

— Support for web-based clients using Java Server Pages / Struts (JSP / Struts) using the Versata Struts client for bean-based data access
