Google Ads Flow To The Amazon

Amazon.com and Google, developer of the largest performance-based search advertising program, today announced a multi-year agreement that will make Google’s search technology and targeted sponsored links available on Amazon.com.

Google’s services will provide Amazon.com customers with access to billions of web pages through Google’s web-wide search results. No details of how much the deal is worth were disclosed. Both Google’s sponsored links and web search will be available to Amazon.com customers within the next several months.

“Both Google and Amazon.com built their businesses by developing exceptional user experiences and providing relevant and comprehensive information,” stated Omid Kordestani, senior vice president of Google’s Worldwide Sales and Field Operations. According to Kordestani, “Google’s services will enable Amazon.com customers to conduct research across the web.”

Google has been aggressively pursuing partnerships with large traffic sites for its keyword targeted AdWords program. This enables Google’s advertisers to “Gain broad exposure across Google’s partner websites” accoding to a statement released by Amazon. Other parntners include AOL, Ask Jeeves, and Earthlink, Walt Disney’s Go.com and most recently CBS SportsLine.com.

It’s clear that since Google has run out of search engine portals to partner with it is now focused on high-traffic websites of any type.

Google’s principal competitor in key word marketing space is Overture.com which itself has been solidifying its leading position by acquiring search engines. In the last few months Overture has acquired Alta Vista and FAST. Overture has all but abandonded its former strategy of partnerships in the face of Google’s competition for these deals. Overture’s purchasing of keyword marketshare by buying busy search engine portals could challenge Google’s stranglehold on the search market as well. Google may also have to face-off against Microsoft.

Now, won’t that be interesting!
