Gmail Swap Site Launches

A site that allows users to exchange goods and services for Gmail accounts has launched. The site, called GmailSwap.com, gives those who are interested a portal where swaps can be conducted. GmailSwap is no way affiliated with Google, obviously.

The way the site works is people post swaps in exchange for Gmail accounts. A sample of the swaps available shows that people are willing to offer a variety of goods, some humorous, some serious, to gain a Gmail account.

*net_oholic offers “Magic: The Gathering cards for invite”
*orz offers “storage”
*mattjcook offers “A Link on My Site”
*zethon offers “A bottle of Jameson”
*g_widdy offers “An unopened bottle of Midol”
*jimmy offers “goodwill”
*simplyspike offers “my vote in nov. for a gmail account”
*pgolriz offers “[ $20 paypal ]”
*grbear offers “USD$30 by Paypal”
*number9ine offers “WEST NILE INFECTION!!”
*MrDisco offers “a very sappy thank you email”
*chuckdoubleu offers “$25 paypal”

These offers come with links so that you and the party involved can work out the details.

GmailSwap was started so people who don’t want to wait for Gmail accounts can offer something to trade for one. On the site’s about page, the thoughts behind this site become clear:

“By the time the gates open to the public, you – the web-savvy A-list indie-rock-listening cool kid – might be left with nothing but the lamest of addresses. And trust me, you don’t want to be ws_alist_IRL_ck21@gmail.com.”

Thanks to SERoundtable for the info.
