Apple’s 4-Day Million

It only took Apple four days to sell over one million songs through its new iTunes Japan service. It was launched on Thursday and got off to a very good start.

“iTunes has sold twice as many songs in just four days as all the other online music services in Japan sell in one month,” stated Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Apple's 4-Day Million Japan is the second-largest music market in the world, and iTunes has a catalog of over one million songs with competitive prices on them.

Japan is the 20th country that Apple has launched its iTunes service in. It was introduced a couple of years ago in the U.S. and has since been launched in European countries. No other country, however, reached one million downloads as quickly as Japan.

“We’ve known that about (400,000 to 500,000 songs) per month is what all the other online music stores in Japan have been doing. The majority of that being Mora,” Reuters quotes Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of applications as saying.

“So the fact that we’ve already done two times that in the first four days is something that we are very, very pleased with,” added Cue.

The best-selling song for iTunes Japan has reportedly been one from a Japanese group called “Def Tech”, and the best-selling album was by “Ulfuls” also from Japan.
