It’s not who you know that will get you the next cushy corporate job, but what you know, and that ‘what’ is everyone’s favorite search advertising company and its place in the world.
Bellying up to the corporate trough and inhaling a six-figure salary means being able to understand what Google means to that next corporate employer. E-Commerce News wrote that a “Google Factor” figures in future executive hiring.
What does that Google Factor mean? For savvy executives, it means bringing knowledge of the impact Google can have on a business. The article cited a survey by Christian & Timbers about this, and listed some positions that will have human resource personnel checking for Googleability in those potential executives:
• Corporate strategy director for Web-oriented company
• Vice president of R&D for Web-oriented company
• Chief strategy officer
• Global collaboration executive
Failing to understand Google’s place in the world, namely the importance of scoring a high rank in its organic search listings and using AdWords effectively in paid search, could doom a company to irrelevance. The article cited an executive with the surveying company on that point:
“If your company does not have an eye on Google or globalization, your company won’t make it to 2010,” Umesh Ramakrishnan, vice chairman of performance-based executive search firm Christian & Timbers, told the E-Commerce Times, “and the executives who understand these dynamic market forces are in high demand.”
