Earlier this summer, Murdok featured an article highlighting a utility designed to enhance the Google user experience. The utility, called MoreGoogle, altered Google’s search results by featuring a thumbnail image of the sites that are present.
Recently, I received communication from Andreas Pizsa informing me that MoreGoogle was issued a cease and desist by Google. Undeterred, Andreas changed the name of his product to LostGoggles and moved the site to a new domain.
The premise of the program is still the same; offering thumbnail shots of sites featured in Google’s search results. However, there have been some changes to the model Andreas used the first time. Previously, installed versions of MoreGoogle would “hijack” ads that appeared in a user’s browser, altering them so ads for MoreGoogle appeared. Andreas has removed this practice from LostGoggles.
LostGoggles does include new features, however. One of the new twists includes the use of enhanced results for Amazon.com. According to the LostGoggles FAQ:
If a Google search result is a link to an Amazon.com product page, MoreGoogle – in association with Amazon.com – is able to display
For those who are interested, LostGoggles is a free download, although users can donate money to Andreas’ cause. Keep in mind that LostGoggles is not a toolbar; it’s a 30-kilobyte DLL that runs in the background, using minimal system resources.
