You know those research guys really know their stuff. You can read just about anywhere that being a perfectionist is a horrible lifestyle. In my coaching practice, and among my friends and acquaintances, I have always found when someone seems really unhappy, the first thing I check for . and usually find . is perfectionism.
Antoine de Saint Exupery said, “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Ponder that!
In 1890, the sculpture Rodin said there was a statue in each block of marble; it was just a question of divining it and bringing it out by removing all that was excessive.
DIVINE IT & REMOVE ALL THAT’S EXCESSIVE aka DECLUTTER
No “perfectionist” himself, Rodin assigned the actual carving of the marble to “practiciens.” Underlings. Craftsmen, not artists.
AFFIRMATION
Like many of us today, I have an excess . an excess of possessions, commitments, people and projects. I work to keep chipping away at the marble of my life until it is “perfect.” And, like Rodin, I will delegate. I will “let go” or perfectionism in that regard, because no one will do it exactly the way I would, but I remain open to the possibility they could actually do it better, if I let it happen.
TOLERATIONS
I will keep removing the tolerations from my life, chipping away at the marble. I will: Get rid of things I don’t need or want Eliminate negative people from my life Repair what’s broken or throw it out Replace what’s irreparable Mend what’s torn Terminate relationships that need to be terminated Stop worrying over little things
